BREAKIN’, ITS ROOTS AND CULTURE
Participatory b-boy/b-girl dance workshop led by members of Fraggle Rock Crew or Dog Pound, dance companies that partner with Global Heat on performances and Outreach programs. As an Outreach program, it can be presented as part of a school assembly (emphasizing more performance/discussion than teaching), as a physical education class, as an after-school program, or as a master class. As a class, it covers Conditioning Exercises, the basics of Toprock, Footwork, classic and original Freezes and foundational Power Moves such as Headspins, Windmills, Flares, Backspins, Handglides, Broncos and more. Silly and sweet, The Harmonica Pocket's kids music is for everyone from age Zero to Grandma.
The Harmonica Pocket, a young at heart band from Port Townsend Washington, makes thoughtful, acoustic and chill music for families with kids. Equal parts "Uplifting," "Organic," and "Clever," their "Pure pop goodness" wins audiences over with laid-back originals and playful re-workings of traditional tunes.
The Harmonica Pocket has performed for busloads of children and grownups in theaters, schools, libraries, clubs, and festivals nationally and internationally. When they take the stage - as a solo act, a duo or with the full band - audiences of all ages are taken on a fully engaging, sensory adventure filled with music, movement, color and unexpected props.
Solo shows incorporate live loops to "build a band" right in front of the audience's ears. Acoustic guitar, ukulele, bass, wah-wah guitar solos and (of course) harmonicas fill out a big sound for a solo performer with only a handful of instruments and a loop pedal on stage.
The Harmonica Pocket has a lot of fun onstage and every interactive, highly improvised, all-ages show gets kids and grown-ups laughing, singing and moving in their seats.

Your guide, composer and piano man, John, Johnny B., Bushell takes you on a trip over the mountains and valleys through the eyes of an eagle, on a fishing trip on beautiful Kachemak Bay, to the international border between Alaska and the Yukon and within the habitat of iconic northern wildlife. Johnny B. proves his commitment to the outdoors and music and is wise enough to let the wilderness deliver its own powerful message.

Growing up listening to the likes of Oliver Mtukudzi, Nina Simone, Bob Marley and Hugh Masekela, Mungo taps into a unique sound and in the words of a fan, a “Heart-Chakra-opening” positive vibe that is universally enjoyed by audiences. Mungo’s music embraces R&B, afrobeat, and a soulful vulnerability, turning upside down his own truths to uncover feelings we all share as people. And to Mungo, the South African dance music genre Amapiano (synths, wide basslines, and soulful piano) sounds like home. The single and music video WISH YOU'D SEE—a project Mungo shot with Director Dir Ubwino and dancer friends in Malawi—created intercontinental buzz when it racked up 10,000 views on YouTube in its first week after being released. The lead single was the prelude to his recent body of work, “WISHES”, a four-track EP exploring the concept of hopes and dreams. Quarteto Nuevo merges western classical, eastern European folk, Latin and jazz with an organic feel that packs a wallop! Winners of two South Arts Jazz Road Tours grants as well as a $40,000 Creative Residency Grant, the ensemble has composed new movements for its Jazz Road Suite celebrating each state they visit! Colorado, Wyoming and Utah were featured in 2020. In Fall 2021 the group added Montana to the suite while touring in four Big Sky communities! This season they visited Alaska (one of the many tours that came about from their stunning ANW Juried Showcase performance in 2022), Oregon, California, Nevada, and Arizona and will record the Nine Movement Jazz Road Suite in a booking at ASU's Kerr Cultural Center. Their diverse programs can be tailored to fit anywhere, from an intimate chamber music venue to a large outdoor festival. Known for engaging outreach programs that include pop-up concerts in community venues, Quarteto’s master musicians create emotionally charged soundscapes with instruments and sensibilities that represent very different world cultures. Their unique instrumentation – soprano saxophone/woodwinds (Damon Zick), cello (Jacob Szekely), guitar (Kenton Youngstrom), and hand percussion (Felipe Fraga) – richly colors their wide-ranging repertoire.

After years of intensive recording projects and concerts for jazz aficionados throughout the U.S., four San Diego-based musicians came together with a purpose: explore the art of song in their own unique way! Renowned jazz, blues and gospel singer Leonard Patton teamed up with the critically acclaimed Danny Green Trio to form LP And The Vinyl. The band’s wide array of influences includes everything from jazz, R&B, and rock, to 80’s and 90’s hits, Brazilian music, and classical music. Blending these sounds together, LP And The Vinyl has created a highly unique and personal approach to music-making that leaves its audiences energized and craving more. The group’s repertoire draws from three separate areas: beautifully reimagined renditions of favorite hits by artists including Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and David Bowie, fresh and funky explorations of jazz standards, and their own original songs. Since their formation in 2015, LP And The Vinyl has performed at the Telluride Jazz Festival, the Vail Jazz Festival, Laguna Festival of the Arts, Chandler Center for the Arts, and the Museum of Making Music. The members of LP And The Vinyl are all devoted music educators. They offer a variety of lectures geared toward musicians and non-musicians, as well as clinics for jazz ensembles. In addition to in-person outreach, the group has also hey have also developed virtual outreach materials including videos and a study guide. They were selected for a week-long residency at Quad City Arts which took place in April, 2022.
Lectures:
Through a combination of performance and discussion, LP And The Vinyl takes the audience into the mind of a jazz musician - a behind the scenes look at the composing and creative process, improvisation, and interaction techniques, and the function of each instrument in the ensemble. Lectures also cover elements of jazz history, placing an emphasis on how music from cultures all around the world shaped and continue to shape jazz. Lectures are intended for both musicians and non- musicians, and can be customized for all age levels.
Clinics:
Clinics with LP And The Vinyl are intensive studies designed to nurture students’ growth as musicians, both technically and creatively. Each member of the group works closely with individual students and with the ensemble as a whole.

The award-winning Encore Saxophone Quartet is among Los Angeles’ premier performing ensembles. Touted during their South African tour, as Masters of the saxophone, impressing their listeners not only by brilliant virtuosity but equally by some of the most delicate sounds imaginable, the internationally renowned Quartet is led by Douglas Masek and was the only American chamber music group selected to perform at the prestigious 2019 Lansum International Music Festival.
The saxophone, invented in the 1840’s by Adolphe Sax, has proven to be one of the most versatile wind instruments to ever be created. It has crossed over into many genres of musical styles and historical creations of a mélange of sound. The mission of the Encore Saxophone Quartet is to provide the listening audience with an exciting and memorable voyage...to revisit times past, create new beginnings, and to join us on a trip of new-found adventures.
With a unique blending of innovative and diverse programming, along with informal narrative, the Encore Saxophone Quartet transports its listeners on a musical journey that exhibits the many colorful sound possibilities encompassing the sound spectrum of the saxophone in a quartet setting.

4. Discussing various specialty techniques and
sound effects from the modern-day saxophonist.

Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuellar has captivated and delighted audiences at intimate venues and major theaters throughout the United States, including the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Bakersfield Fox Theatre, and the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. Founded in 1994 by Jaime Cuellar, the ensemble of 8-12 mariachi musicians is now led by his son, Jimmy K. Cuellar, a three-time Grammy award winner.
Frequently collaborating with other artists such as Pedro Fernandez, Ana Barbara, and Angela Aguilar, Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuellar was selected for a 2017 production by the network in which they teamed with Ballet Folklorico de Los Angeles to recreate "A Tale as Old as Time" from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The video of the performance received over 15 million views. Most recently, Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar was a featured artist in Center Stage Opera's 2019 production of Mozart's Le Nozze de Figaro.

Jarabe Mexicano captures the nostalgic spirit of their border roots with their brand of "Bordeño-Soul," which honors the musical tastes and cultural influences of its members. Jarabe, which translates to 'concoction,' highlights the eclectic mix of genres they perform ranging from Mexican Folk, Rock & Roll, and Norteño/Tex-Mex to Latin Rock, Trio Romántico, and popular Cumbia. Their traditional Mariachi string instruments and Norteño-inspired drums complement dramatic vocals in English, Spanish, and Spanglish, and shows how this multi-generational ensemble embraces change while still honoring the past.

Included will be stunningly gorgeous music by Marianna Martines, who lived in the same circles as Haydn and Mozart, and often joined Mozart in piano duets at the musical soirées she and her sister held in their Viennese home.

The Mountain State has its Stage and the Prairie Home its Companion. Long Alaska nights gather folks at Parlor In The Round, a songwriter showcase with an improv twist! Three songwriters – a national act, a “ringer†and a local – are guided by host Kevin Worrell through rounds of songs, stories, and improv games for a night of leaned-in listening and laughing out loud.
The show opens with the rules of play and artist introductions (and some light roasting) by our Oprah-meets-Bob-Barker host. Songwriting homework follows, making each show a debut of new works. After the intermission, tradition is cast aside as the musicians dive into collaborations, jocular inventions and premeditated musings all based on written submissions from the audience.
In 2013 Anchorage-based songwriter Kevin Worrell was seeking a space for songwriters to be inspired, for the audience to be engaged and the venue to be supported. After 7 seasons (sold out since season 4) he found that Parlor In The Round creates a space that knits community closer through the novel experience of creating together.
Parlor has featured Joan Osborne, Dan Bern, Steve Poltz, John Craigie, Peter Mulvey, Quinn Christopherson, Eric Howk (Portugal. The Man) and more.

How Parlor In The Round (PITR) Touring works:
PITR staff work with presenting organization to select a national touring headliner. PITR staff then select a 'ringer' (a seasoned PITR veteran) and seeks out a local artists from the presenting community. We are both on in-ear monitors, which also live in Jamie’s rack — meaning that we neither use nor need stage monitors.

AK's not-so-secret weapon, the bagpipes, sets the band apart and uses the pipes to extend the band's sound without making it the focal point. Just imagine your favourite hard rock jams kickin' an East Coast kitchen party! Constantly playing in Canada and the USA, the band has recently begun to take the show to Asia and Europe. In 2019, the band's single 'Here We Go' quickly became a sports anthem with teams with the CFL, NHL, and NFL officially using the song to pump up the crowd. March 2024 the band celebrated their 120th Las Vegas performance! The AK have been a favourite attraction in Las Vegas since their first 10-show run in 2015. May 2023 saw the first single 'Soldier On', a track written by AK and five armed forces members detailing the triumphs and tragedies of military service. In the fall of 2024, AK will release their new record 'Hard Wired for Rock n' Roll'.

One Day Songwriting Workshop
Internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Andrew Allen will draw on his extensive knowledge of the
craft of songwriting and guide students through an experience that shines the light on the skills it
takes to create a song, the diverse landscape that songs get used in, and ofer an opportunity to craft
a portion of a song.
Andrew has done numerous workshops lasting one day to one week with various age groups. He’s
worked the past two years alongside the Excellence Through The Arts program in Kelowna where he
is brought in to a school for an entire week, given the time to work with all classes, and eventually
crafting their new school song which he then records with the students.
In this one day program, the same professionalism is brought to the students, with more emphasis
being placed on the introduction to songwriting vs creating a full song, however, it can be catered to
the group, and the group size and age, so more emphasis can be placed on the actual creative side of
crafting a song.

When COVID-19 hit and concert venues closed their doors, concert violinists Etienne Gara and YuEun Kim of the Los Angeles-based chamber orchestra Delirium Musicum took to the road in Boris, their 1971 VW bus, for what became a 6-month odyssey, performing for farm workers, winemakers, random passersby, and various animals.
As MusiKaravan, their goal was to celebrate, and thank, the people who “are working hard to feed us physically and emotionally.”
Now, with the addition of cellist Stella Cho, MusiKaravan is bringing its eclectic programming to concert stages nationwide and beyond.
Outreaches are a core activity of MusiKaravan. In addition to performing small shows in different formats and venues (libraries, school, retirement homes, hospitals etc) our musicians excel in coaching small chamber music groups in schools or colleges, as well as participating in big ensemble/orchestra rehearsals and share their knowledge and experience as they play along with the students. Another signature activity of MusiKaravan is our Baby Concerts, intended to creating a safe-space for families with infants to experience a family bonding time surrounded by live music; a guaranteed life-long memory to be cherished!

Calle Sur is living proof that the terms "Latinx,” Latino,” or “Hispanic” can't be summarized. Calle Sur is a combination of the multifaceted experiences of being Latin American, of coming from urban versus rural settings, of being of multiracial and multicultural origin, of mixing multi-gender perspectives.
Ed East is Panamanian. His great-grandparents moved to Panama from Barbados, and his great-grandfather worked for the railroad during the construction of the Panama Canal. Karin Stein, his Colombian partner and the granddaughter of German immigrants, grew up with no electricity on a remote farm in the eastern plains of Colombia.
Calle Sur is known for the breadth of its musical repertoire. Both musicians are immigrants to the United States who have undergone firsthand the process of adaptation to a new culture. They are veteran musicians and experienced educators who expertly perform a broad range of Latin music styles and offer a broad range of community engagement opportunities. They have been a team for 24 years. Karin and Ed excel at challenging preconceptions about Latin America and Latin Americans with beautiful sounds, comfortable skill, and an engaging stage presence.
In addition to being available for live performances, Calle Sur continues to offer virtual concerts in post-pandemic times, because they are less expensive for the presenter and therefore affordable to anyone with a limited budget for artists and school shows, and because virtual events have a much lower carbon footprint. Hailing from Montreal, Canada by way of Budapest, Hungary, Sophie Lukacs is a kora player, singer and composer. She won the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award for Global Music Album. Sophie received the MUZ Vision Diversite Award in 2022 and the Stingray Rising Star Award in 2021.Her debut album Bamako, was released in spring 2023, and features the legendary Habib Koité.
Sophie's concerts are an intimate musical journey for the senses and the soul. As a singer-songwriter, Sophie's program is built around her own original works for kora and voice, beautifully intertwined with Hungarian folk tunes, traditional Chasidic songs, and Malian Mandingue pieces. Sophie is accompanied on stage by calabash and bass and sings in English, Bambara and Hungarian.
Drawing inspiration from her training in classical violin and 7 years of study in Mali with renown kora virtuoso Toumani Diabaté, Lukacs is forging a distinctive and alluring style within the folk music tradition.
Because the kora is primarily played by men born to griot families, it's a real acknowledgment of her skills that Lukacs is one of the few women in the world recognized as a kora player. She's collaborated with some of the best-known Malian musicians, including Habib Koité, who's also featured on her forthcoming album.
Sophie offers a workshop titled "The Kora Beyond Borders. The aim is to introduce and contextualize the kora within its socio-political, historical and musical setting.
● Explanation of the form of the kora and the materials used to build it
● Geography of 13th century Mandingue Empire and present-day area
● The organization of society around castes in the Mandingue Empire in the 13th century
● An explanation of the “griot”, or “jali” – the musical/oral historian
● The evolving role of the griot caste from Mandingue Empire to today
● The transmission process within griot families
In parallel, Sophie recounts her own musical journey through song and story from Budapest to
Bamako, from western classical to Mandingue music, from the violin to the kora, and stories of
the music and musicians that inspired, mentored, and collaborated with her. This includes:
● how she transitioned from the violin to the kora, how she arrived in Bamako,
and her 7 years studying in Mali
● A demonstration of how the kora is played (4 fingers), and how traditional
pieces are played; looping bass lines played by the thumbs while index fingers
simultaneously play the melody and improvise
● A demonstration of traditional Mandingue pieces Sophie learnt from kora
virtuoso Toumani Diabaté, including Diabarabi, Sambou Yaya, and Toubaka
● Sophie’s process of finding her musical voice on the kora and lessons from her
mentors in Mali (Habib Koité, Vieux Farka Touré)
● Performance of Sophie’s own compositions, sung in Bambara and English
● 2 songs that involve participation from the audience

At the end of the workshop, there is a 10-minute Q & A period. The audience is also invited to try playing
the kora as well. If the workshop is presented at a University or high school setting with musicians

Project Convergence is home to the union of Bharatanatyam and American tap dance. Bringing the Roaring ‘20s into the 2020s!
Good Co is the US’s first live Electro Swing Band, a genre
that mixes the music of the swing era with the dance
music of today. With that “new-old” sound, Electro Swing
combines the era of jitterbugging flappers and
underground speakeasies with the funky beats and the
electric sounds of today's dance music.
Since 2013 Good Co has performed concerts, music
festivals and outreach programs the world over and their

When it comes to Creole culture and Zydeco music, Terrance Simien and his Zydeco Experience bandmates represent hard. They also represent the past, present, and future of American roots music. Two-time Grammy award-winning, 8th generation Louisiana Creole, Simien has been redefining his roots music since he began his career in 1981, as one of only 2 teen-aged zydeco bands in the world. This six-piece intergenerational and multicultural group have become one of the most respected, and in-demand roots music bands touring today. They’re highly skilled, formally trained and very experienced performers. Their hypnotic blend of zydeco-roots-reggae-folk-soul-gospel-New Orleans jazz and funk will lift your spirits higher while forcing your body onto the dance floor to move and groove!

Bowen Lyam Lee has been on the stage of regional and national storytelling events, conducts workshops for educators, and performs virtually with national, international, and regional programs. She has won numerous national story slams and been a National Storytelling Network Grand Slam winner. She is a Chautauqua scholar who has performed Asian women of history, including Anna May Wong and Bowen’s great grandmother, who was born and raised in the Chinese fishing village of Monterey. Bowen was a public school teacher for 35 years and taught k-12 and adult education, specializing in English language development, science and environmental education. She has retired from public school teaching, but continues to give workshops on storytelling in education. She is now a professional storyteller who specializes in historical, educational, and environmental storytelling.
I have done in person, virtual, and hybrid storytelling. Virtual live telling is either Zoom or Google Meet. Hybrid telling performed via Facebook Live or YouTube Live. I also provide recorded stories. I started out as an online storyteller during shelter in place, but my favorite performances are with live audiences.
I have my own microphones and speaker but prefer using an existing sound system at a venue if there is one.
