Board Member
Laura Ellsworth was born and raised in Bethel, Alaska, a geographically isolated, rural community accessible only by plane. It is located on the Kuskokwim River, and is a connecting hub for all of the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta region. She is not Indigenous, but was immersed in the dynamic Yup'ik culture from a young age. That culture helped shape how she moves through the world today, how she communicates with others, and her way of being. Her previous work experience has focused on community health and wellness, education, and philanthropy. She values authentic connection, creative approaches to challenges, and responsible generosity.
Laura is the Executive Director of the Southwest Alaska Arts Group where she works to help grow the arts and culture sector in rural Alaska. She is guided by the belief that diversity makes us stronger, more inclusive and more vibrant. Laura lives in Anchorage where she hikes all summer long and hibernates in the winter.
