Global Heat band stirs up a fresh mix of Soul/R&B music that has been called “Truly remarkable and wonderful” [Joyce Taylor, NBC News, Seattle] and “High-caliber” [Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, Reno]. The workshop or short performance includes demos and discussion of the music of Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown; the Motown sound of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder; R&B like Earth Wind and Fire; and contemporary artists like Lizzo, Anderson Paak, and Kendrick Lamar. INTERSECTIONS of Soul, Jazz & Hip-Hop: Social Impacts across the World. This program explores the emergence and influence of these diverse musical genres as a conduit for cross-cultural dialogue.

Silly and sweet, The Harmonica Pocket's kids music is for everyone from age Zero to Grandma. The Harmonica Pocket, a young at heart band from Port Townsend Washington, makes thoughtful, acoustic and chill music for families with kids. Equal parts "Uplifting," "Organic," and "Clever," their "Pure pop goodness" wins audiences over with laid-back originals and playful re-workings of traditional tunes. The Harmonica Pocket has performed for busloads of children and grownups in theaters, schools, libraries, clubs, and festivals nationally and internationally. When they take the stage - as a solo act, a duo or with the full band - audiences of all ages are taken on a fully engaging, sensory adventure filled with music, movement, color and unexpected props. Quarteto Nuevo merges western classical, eastern European folk, Latin and jazz with an organic feel that packs a wallop! Winners of two South Arts Jazz Road Tours grants as well as a $40,000 Creative Residency Grant, the ensemble has composed new movements for its Jazz Road Suite celebrating each state they visit! Colorado, Wyoming and Utah were featured in 2020. In Fall 2021 the group added Montana to the suite while touring in four Big Sky communities! This season they visited Alaska (one of the many tours that came about from their stunning ANW Juried Showcase performance in 2022), Oregon, California, Nevada, and Arizona and will record the Nine Movement Jazz Road Suite in a booking at ASU's Kerr Cultural Center. Their diverse programs can be tailored to fit anywhere, from an intimate chamber music venue to a large outdoor festival. Known for engaging outreach programs that include pop-up concerts in community venues, Quartetoâ€™s master musicians create emotionally charged soundscapes with instruments and sensibilities that represent very different world cultures. Their unique instrumentation â€“ soprano saxophone/woodwinds (Damon Zick), cello (Jacob Szekely), guitar (Kenton Youngstrom), and hand percussion (Felipe Fraga) â€“ richly colors their wide-ranging repertoire. Winners of the Beverly Hills National Auditions, Quarteto Nuevo travels a musical journey that begins with Erik Satie and Heitor Villa-Lobos, and takes us to Chick Corea and their own stunning original compositions.

After years of intensive recording projects and concerts for jazz aficionados throughout the U.S., four San Diego-based musicians came together with a purpose: explore the art of song in their own unique way! Renowned jazz, blues and gospel singer Leonard Patton teamed up with the critically acclaimed Danny Green Trio to form LP And The Vinyl. The bandâ€™s wide array of influences includes everything from jazz, R&B, and rock, to 80â€™s and 90â€™s hits, Brazilian music, and classical music. Blending these sounds together, LP And The Vinyl has created a highly unique and personal approach to music-making that leaves its audiences energized and craving more. The groupâ€™s repertoire draws from three separate areas: beautifully reimagined renditions of favorite hits by artists including Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and David Bowie, fresh and funky explorations of jazz standards, and their own original songs. Since their formation in 2015, LP And The Vinyl has performed at the Telluride Jazz Festival, the Vail Jazz Festival, Laguna Festival of the Arts, Chandler Center for the Arts, and the Museum of Making Music. The members of LP And The Vinyl are all devoted music educators. They offer a variety of lectures geared toward musicians and non-musicians, as well as clinics for jazz ensembles. In addition to in-person outreach, the group has also hey have also developed virtual outreach materials including videos and a study guide. They were selected for a week-long residency at Quad City Arts which took place in April, 2022. Lectures: Through a combination of performance and discussion, LP And The Vinyl takes the audience into the mind of a jazz musician - a behind the scenes look at the composing and creative process, improvisation, and interaction techniques, and the function of each instrument in the ensemble. Lectures also cover elements of jazz history, placing an emphasis on how music from cultures all around the world shaped and continue to shape jazz. Lectures are intended for both musicians and non- musicians, and can be customized for all age levels. Clinics: Clinics with LP And The Vinyl are intensive studies designed to nurture studentsâ€™ growth as musicians, both technically and creatively. Each member of the group works closely with individual students and with the ensemble as a whole.

The Mountain State has its Stage and the Prairie Home its Companion. Long Alaska nights gather folks at Parlor In The Round, a songwriter showcase with an improv twist! Three songwriters â€“ a national act, a â€œringerâ€ and a local â€“ are guided by host Kevin Worrell through rounds of songs, stories, and improv games for a night of leaned-in listening and laughing out loud. The show opens with the rules of play and artist introductions (and some light roasting) by our Oprah-meets-Bob-Barker host. Songwriting homework follows, making each show a debut of new works. After the intermission, tradition is cast aside as the musicians dive into collaborations, jocular inventions and premeditated musings all based on written submissions from the audience. In 2013 Anchorage-based songwriter Kevin Worrell was seeking a space for songwriters to be inspired, for the audience to be engaged and the venue to be supported. After 7 seasons (sold out since season 4) he found that Parlor In The Round creates a space that knits community closer through the novel experience of creating together. How Parlor In The Round (PITR) Touring works: PITR staff work with presenting organization to select a national touring headliner. PITR staff then select a 'ringer' (a seasoned PITR veteran) and seeks out a local artists from the presenting community. On a block booked tour, the Headliner and Ringer typically play the whole block, with a new local artist from each presenting community. PITR staff manage all the pre-production coordination. PITR secures a media release from all artists and records each show for post production broadcast/podcast. Streaming performances are acceptable. Any recordings of streamed content will be shared with PITR and terms for sharing/distribution agreed upon in contracting process.

Based in Salem, Oregon - the folk pop duo Phoenix consists of award-winning songwriters Tim and Kathy Crosby - who have performed together from Las Vegas to Nashville, in large venues and small. Now being compared to the likes of Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings, June Carter Cash and Mary Travers - Phoenix rises in the joy of a sound that highlights the multi-instrumental talents of both musicians while focusing on a variety of vocal styles and abilities. We, for decades, have volunteered a holiday performance at The Grotto, which is a monastery and either a tourist or personal destination for many. A few times each year, we travel to Falls City, Oregon to provide music for both a summer and an (award winning!) holiday event. We have done instrument tastings (we bring approx. 26 instruments for people to try out), songwriting workshops, and slow jams.

We realize that things have changed with the pandemic, and we are more than happy to provide our own microphones. Our instruments all plug in directly. If using our DI boxes, they will require phantom power. Kathy plays acoustic guitar, acoustic bass (Taylor GS mini), and uke. Tim plays a variety of instruments (guitar, banjo, fiddle, dulcimer, etc.).

Our show is ridiculously easy to stage. All the mixing happens in Jamie’s onstage rack, and he simply sends a stereo feed to the house sound system and an HDMI cable to the projector. We are both on in-ear monitors, which also live in Jamie’s rack — meaning that we neither use nor need stage monitors. Yes, you heard that right: two people, three inputs, no monitors. It’s the simplest show you’ll stage all year, yet it packs a terrific impact. The production quality is very high on both the audio and video sides, and the show scales seamlessly from small to large venues.

One Day Songwriting Workshop Internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Andrew Allen will draw on his extensive knowledge of the craft of songwriting and guide students through an experience that shines the light on the skills it takes to create a song, the diverse landscape that songs get used in, and ofer an opportunity to craft a portion of a song. Andrew has done numerous workshops lasting one day to one week with various age groups. He’s worked the past two years alongside the Excellence Through The Arts program in Kelowna where he is brought in to a school for an entire week, given the time to work with all classes, and eventually crafting their new school song which he then records with the students. In this one day program, the same professionalism is brought to the students, with more emphasis being placed on the introduction to songwriting vs creating a full song, however, it can be catered to the group, and the group size and age, so more emphasis can be placed on the actual creative side of crafting a song.

When COVID-19 hit and concert venues closed their doors, concert violinists Etienne Gara and YuEun Kim of the Los Angeles-based chamber orchestra Delirium Musicum took to the road in Boris, their 1971 VW bus, for what became a 6-month odyssey, performing for farm workers, winemakers, random passersby, and various animals. As MusiKaravan, their goal was to celebrate, and thank, the people who “are working hard to feed us physically and emotionally.” Now, with the addition of cellist Stella Cho, MusiKaravan is bringing its eclectic programming to concert stages nationwide and beyond.

Outreaches are a core activity of MusiKaravan. In addition to performing small shows in different formats and venues (libraries, school, retirement homes, hospitals etc) our musicians excel in coaching small chamber music groups in schools or colleges, as well as participating in big ensemble/orchestra rehearsals and share their knowledge and experience as they play along with the students. Another signature activity of MusiKaravan is our Baby Concerts, intended to creating a safe-space for families with infants to experience a family bonding time surrounded by live music; a guaranteed life-long memory to be cherished!

Calle Sur is living proof that the terms "Latinx,” Latino,” or “Hispanic” can't be summarized. Calle Sur is a combination of the multifaceted experiences of being Latin American, of coming from urban versus rural settings, of being of multiracial and multicultural origin, of mixing multi-gender perspectives. Ed East is Panamanian. His great-grandparents moved to Panama from Barbados, and his great-grandfather worked for the railroad during the construction of the Panama Canal. Karin Stein, his Colombian partner and the granddaughter of German immigrants, grew up with no electricity on a remote farm in the eastern plains of Colombia. Calle Sur is known for the breadth of its musical repertoire. Both musicians are immigrants to the United States who have undergone firsthand the process of adaptation to a new culture. They are veteran musicians and experienced educators who expertly perform a broad range of Latin music styles and offer a broad range of community engagement opportunities. Hailing from Montreal, Canada by way of Budapest, Hungary, Sophie Lukacs is a kora player, singer and composer. She won the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award for Global Music Album. Sophie received the MUZ Vision Diversite Award in 2022 and the Stingray Rising Star Award in 2021.Her debut album Bamako, was released in spring 2023, and features the legendary Habib Koité. Sophie's concerts are an intimate musical journey for the senses and the soul. As a singer-songwriter, Sophie's program is built around her own original works for kora and voice, beautifully intertwined with Hungarian folk tunes, traditional Chasidic songs, and Malian Mandingue pieces. Sophie is accompanied on stage by calabash and bass and sings in English, Bambara and Hungarian. Drawing inspiration from her training in classical violin and 7 years of study in Mali with renown kora virtuoso Toumani Diabaté, Lukacs is forging a distinctive and alluring style within the folk music tradition. Because the kora is primarily played by men born to griot families, it's a real acknowledgment of her skills that Lukacs is one of the few women in the world recognized as a kora player. She's collaborated with some of the best-known Malian musicians, including Habib Koité, who's also featured on her forthcoming album.

Sophie offers a workshop titled "The Kora Beyond Borders. The aim is to introduce and contextualize the kora within its socio-political, historical and musical setting. ● Explanation of the form of the kora and the materials used to build it ● Geography of 13th century Mandingue Empire and present-day area ● The organization of society around castes in the Mandingue Empire in the 13th century ● An explanation of the “griot”, or “jali” – the musical/oral historian ● The evolving role of the griot caste from Mandingue Empire to today ● The transmission process within griot families In parallel, Sophie recounts her own musical journey through song and story from Budapest to Bamako, from western classical to Mandingue music, from the violin to the kora, and stories of the music and musicians that inspired, mentored, and collaborated with her. This includes: ● how she transitioned from the violin to the kora, how she arrived in Bamako, and her 7 years studying in Mali ● A demonstration of how the kora is played (4 fingers), and how traditional pieces are played; looping bass lines played by the thumbs while index fingers simultaneously play the melody and improvise ● A demonstration of traditional Mandingue pieces Sophie learnt from kora virtuoso Toumani Diabaté, including Diabarabi, Sambou Yaya, and Toubaka ● Sophie’s process of finding her musical voice on the kora and lessons from her mentors in Mali (Habib Koité, Vieux Farka Touré) ● Performance of Sophie’s own compositions, sung in Bambara and English ● 2 songs that involve participation from the audience ● 2 Hungarian folk songs At the end of the workshop, there is a 10-minute Q & A period. Brian James is a Soulful/Country act, Born and raised on a farm in the small logging community of Montesano, WA, Brian is at home on the stage where his larger than life personality comes out with witty commentary and raw energy. From a young age Brian knew that he wanted to pursue music, and in 2005 he moved to Nashville Tennessee where he wrote songs for the Surefire Music Company. In 2013 Brian formed the TSDC Music Group a publishing company where his songs were featured in car commercials for Cadillac and Dodge as well various tv and film placements. Today Brian lives in the Pacific Northwest where he perform regularly both covers and originals, solo as well as with his band. His showmanship and modern sound has drawn a diverse audience of all ages with tastes in music from multiple genres and era’s.

Project Convergence is home to the union of Bharatanatyam and American tap dance. Lauded by both the New York Times and The Hindu, Project Convergence presents an experience simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar to audiences by uniting two seemingly different cultures in the universal language of rhythm. The company has been featured in The Guardian, WNYC (New York Public Radio), and The Dance Enthusiast. They’ve appeared across the United States, including at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre for the Erasing Borders Dance Festival, Lincoln Center for their 2018 Out of Doors Series, and the Houston Texan’s NRG Stadium. Excerpts of their show Taalam (Rhythm) have played to a sold out 5,000 person audience at Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center and the Citigroup Theatre at Alvin Ailey.

Project Convergence offers many outreach and educational options: 1. Post show Q/A 2. Panels on Diversity in the arts, and the barriers erected against non-ballet-based dance forms 3. "Converging Rhythms", a workshop exposing the basics of jazz and carnatic music, and merging them 4. Dance technique workshops for local dancers 5. Panels and workshops on freelance careers and common pitfalls 5. School assemblies on any of the above topics, including a performance

For sound, we require 6-8 floor mics, 6-8 pencil condenser mics, and we strongly prefer a wood floor over marley. For lighting, we require standard dance lighting, with 6 specials. We also require a headset on each side of the stage. If lights are pre-hung and microphones are pre-placed, we can typically tech within 4 hours, and can therefore do tech and show on the same day! Bringing the Roaring ‘20s into the 2020s! Good Co is the US’s first live Electro Swing Band, a genre that mixes the music of the swing era with the dance music of today. With that “new-old” sound, Electro Swing combines the era of jitterbugging flappers and underground speakeasies with the funky beats and the electric sounds of today's dance music. Since 2013 Good Co has performed concerts, music festivals and outreach programs the world over and their music can be heard on radio, label compilations, independent films, and on television. The band has been a featured performer for Benaroya Hall in Seattle, The Smithsonian in Washington DC, and for festivals throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. And whether it’s performing their music 10,000 feet up in the Austrian Alps (true story), underwater (in bathing suits no less!) at the Bad Sulza Spa, at a community theatre, neighborhood performance center, or local school, Good Co is thrilled to play anywhere there’s a crowd ready for a good time! When it comes to Creole culture and Zydeco music, Terrance Simien and his Zydeco Experience bandmates represent hard. They also represent the past, present, and future of American roots music. Two-time Grammy award-winning, 8th generation Louisiana Creole, Simien has been redefining his roots music since he began his career in 1981, as one of only 2 teen-aged zydeco bands in the world. This six-piece intergenerational and multicultural group have become one of the most respected, and in-demand roots music bands touring today. They’re highly skilled, formally trained and very experienced performers. Their hypnotic blend of zydeco-roots-reggae-folk-soul-gospel-New Orleans jazz and funk will lift your spirits higher while forcing your body onto the dance floor to move and groove! The Zydeco Experience is Terrance (vocals, accordion, frottoir), Danny Williams (keyboards, vocals), Stan Chambers (bass guitar, vocals), Ian Molinaro-Thompson (drums), Michael Christie (trumpet) and Noah Boshra (saxophone).

The outreach menu is endless and we work closely with each presenter to craft a program that fits your needs and achieves your goals. In 40 years, 25 Creole for Kidz and the History of Zydeco, 9000 performances, 100+ residencies, international and U.S State Dept. tours, you name it we've done it: -K-12 lec/dems in schools, libraries, community centers (when full band performances are not avail/or in addition to) -College lec/dems -Correctional facilities, senior centers, after school programs -Creole Cooking Demo - so much fun!

Bowen Lyam Lee has been on the stage of regional and national storytelling events, conducts workshops for educators, and performs virtually with national, international, and regional programs. She has won numerous national story slams and been a National Storytelling Network Grand Slam winner. She is a Chautauqua scholar who has performed Asian women of history, including Anna May Wong and Bowen’s great grandmother, who was born and raised in the Chinese fishing village of Monterey. Bowen was a public school teacher for 35 years and taught k-12 and adult education, specializing in English language development, science and environmental education. She has retired from public school teaching, but continues to give workshops on storytelling in education. She is now a professional storyteller who specializes in historical, educational, and environmental storytelling.

I have done in person, virtual, and hybrid storytelling. Virtual live telling is either Zoom or Google Meet. Hybrid telling performed via Facebook Live or YouTube Live. I also provide recorded stories. I started out as an online storyteller during shelter in place, but my favorite performances are with live audiences.

I have my own microphones and speaker but prefer using an existing sound system at a venue if there is one.
